New Music Challenge Day 2: Lomovolokno – Overlay Star

Well, after writing a post about death and the internet, I now need to complete day 2 of the challenge. So I went over to the Free Music Archive for todays new music, hoping to find something to fit my mood. I fancied something electronic, and then saw the genre ‘Skweee’. Well, I had to have a listen with a name like that, expecting a laugh. IT’S TOP! The first tune I played and I loved it. So it was a definite choice.

Here’s the wikipedia entry on Skweee. I suspect I should probably go visit our friends in the cold north, I suspect I would like it there.
Why do I like this track? I love the sound of it, I love it’s repetitiveness, I love the timbres, and it contains just enough chiptune influences without sound utterly stupid like I think most of chiptune does. Chiptune is really clever but not something I’d want to listen to beyond my retro gameboy days. Anyway, this is todays choice, I’m now on my third listen.
The interesting thing about this is it’s similarity at the beginning to Aphex Twin “Windowlicker”, I know this maybe going out on a limb but it really does sound like a small section of that awesome tune.
